Art world expects vibrant season
The U.S. spring auction season begins this week amid an air of cautious optimism with growing foreign collectors expected to offset more tepid U.S. demand.
The highlight of the season is Francis Bacon's "Triptych, 1976" expected to sell for around $70 million at Sotheby's. Other highlights include a Christie's auction of Claude Monet's "The Railway Bridge at Argenteuil" bearing a $40 million pre-sale estimate.
