Christie's auction of Impressionist and Modern Art made more than 277 million U.S. Dollars and broke auction records for works by Claude Monet, Auguste Rodin and Alberto Giacometti.

Monet's 1873 "Le Pont du chemin de fer a Argenteuil" and a bronze sculpture by Rodin, "Eve, grand modele-version sans rocher", both broke Christie's sales record for these artists in an auction dominated by foreign buyers capitalising on the weak U.S. dollar.

SOUNDBITE: CHRISTOPHER BURGE, CHRISTIE'S AUCTIONEER::
"Generally speaking, for the very best things, the market was still red hot and top prices were more than we expected."
